Asante Akyem: Foase Residents Clash with Chiefs Over Alleged Sale of Community Land

Residents of Asante Akyem Foase in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region are calling on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in a chieftaincy dispute and alleged unlawful sale of community lands.

The residents claim that caretakers of the community have been selling off land, including the community's sanitation area, which is currently being developed by a private developer.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the residents expressed frustration that major developmental projects have been halted due to the absence of a substantive chief.

Youth leader, Mr. Charles Brako Sarpong, alleged that a developer has reneged on a promise to build a police station in exchange for land, and is now using the land for a hostel project.

"The youth in the community are agitated by the situation, and we're calling on authorities to step in," Sarpong said.

Nifahene for Foase, Nana Nimako, defended the sale, saying it was done to raise funds for the Asantehema's funeral, and that the district assembly had declared the area no longer a sanitation site.

He urged the youth to seek explanation and maintain peace in the area.
