BONO EAST CASHEW FARMERS CRY FOR HELP AS PRODUCE GOES TO WASTE

Image

The farmers, who rely heavily on cashew as a major source of income, say large quantities of their harvested produce are going to waste due to the absence of buyers, leaving many households struggling to survive. Their concerns came to light during a tour by the Minority Caucus led by the Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh. The team visited key farming communities including Kintampo South, Nkoranza North, and Nkoranza South as part of a nationwide engagement with farmers. President Mahama Wants To Collapse the Agric. Ministry- Ranking Member on agricultural

Image
Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku, MP for Offinso South and ranking member on agriculture, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of attempting to collapse Ghana's agricultural sector.  Speaking during a minority caucus engagement at Tromenso in the Wenchi constituency with farmers, Opoku revealed that the 2025 budget allocated only GH₵2.9 billion to the agricultural ministry, a sum he and the minority deemed insufficient. Opoku expressed dismay that by September, the government had released only 16% of the already meager budget, crippling ministry operations.  He attributed the minister's frequent project launches without execution to the dire financial situation, citing the failed Nkoko nkitenkite project as an example. Opoku also highlighted the government's unfulfilled promise to released the allocated GH₵200 million for maize buffer stock purchases, leaving farmers struggling.

THIEVES NOW STEAL AVOCADO, NOT COCOA – DAMOAH BLASTS PRICE DROP

Image
The Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Colonel Kwadwo Damoah, has raised concerns over the sharp decline in cocoa prices, claiming the situation has worsened to the point where thieves now target avocado pears instead of cocoa beans. Speaking at Miremalo in the Bono Region, he criticized the state of the cocoa sector under John Dramani Mahama, noting that cocoa, once a major source of national pride, has significantly lost its value. Colonel Damoah described the situation as troubling, pointing out the irony of thieves ignoring dry cocoa beans while opting for avocado pears, which he said reflects the declining worth of cocoa. He blamed government policies for weakening the sector and leaving farmers exposed to economic hardship. Cocoa farmers in the Jaman South Constituency also expressed disappointment in the government’s handling of the industry, calling for urgent interventions to restore confidence and improve conditions within the cocoa sector.

If You Could Borrowed $10b To Stabilise the Cedis, Do Same and Pay Cocoa Farmers

Image
The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has raised concerns over what he describes as misplaced government priorities, questioning why the state is seeking to borrow $10 billion to stabilize the Ghana cedi while cocoa farmers remain unpaid. Speaking at Asensu 1 in the Dormaa Central Constituency, Annoh-Dompreh challenged President John Dramani Mahama to consider borrowing a smaller amount to clear outstanding payments owed to cocoa farmers. According to him, the proposed $10 billion loan—equivalent to approximately GH₵117 billion at current exchange rates—demonstrates that the government has the capacity to raise funds, yet has failed to prioritize the welfare of farmers who form the backbone of Ghana’s economy. He argued that borrowing even a fraction of the amount would be sufficient to settle debts owed to cocoa farmers across the country. Annoh-Dompreh further criticized what he described as a longstanding pattern where cocoa is traded annually, but farmers receive mini...
