THIEVES NOW STEAL AVOCADO, NOT COCOA – DAMOAH BLASTS PRICE DROP

The Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Colonel Kwadwo Damoah, has raised concerns over the sharp decline in cocoa prices, claiming the situation has worsened to the point where thieves now target avocado pears instead of cocoa beans.

Speaking at Miremalo in the Bono Region, he criticized the state of the cocoa sector under John Dramani Mahama, noting that cocoa, once a major source of national pride, has significantly lost its value.

Colonel Damoah described the situation as troubling, pointing out the irony of thieves ignoring dry cocoa beans while opting for avocado pears, which he said reflects the declining worth of cocoa. He blamed government policies for weakening the sector and leaving farmers exposed to economic hardship.

Cocoa farmers in the Jaman South Constituency also expressed disappointment in the government’s handling of the industry, calling for urgent interventions to restore confidence and improve conditions within the cocoa sector.
