President Mahama Launches ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ Initiative to Revive Poultry Industry
President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative in the Ashanti Region, aimed at restoring food sufficiency, strengthening household resilience, and promoting sustainable livelihoods across the country.
Speaking at the event held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, President Mahama described the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative as the flagship element of the government’s poultry industry revitalization program a key component of the broader Feed Ghana initiative.
He noted that for far too long, Ghana’s poultry industry, which once made significant contributions to rural development and national nutrition, has been struggling due to challenges such as high feed costs, limited access to improved breeds, inadequate processing capacity, and overreliance on imports.
President Mahama revealed that in 2023 alone, Ghana spent over 350 million dollars on importing poultry products — a trend he said drains the nation’s foreign exchange and limits opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
He stressed that the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative seeks to reverse this situation by encouraging local production, processing, and consumption of poultry products, thereby reclaiming Ghana’s pride in growing what it eats.
