MTN Launches “Shine Your Eye” Campaign To Fight Mobile Money Scamming
Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has launched a new initiative dubbed “Shine Your Eye” aimed at combating fraud and scamming activities within mobile money services across the country.
The campaign seeks to increase awareness and educate customers on how to identify and avoid mobile money scams as digital financial transactions continue to grow in Ghana.
Speaking at a capacity-building workshop held at the Garden House near the Great Hall of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Senior Manager for Business Development at Mobile Money Fintech Limited, Charles Osei Owusu, stated that almost every mobile money user has experienced scamming attempts, including himself.
MTN is now using drama-based commercials and public education campaigns to sensitize customers on the tactics used by fraudsters highlighting that the awareness campaign is being rolled out across all regions of the country. Mr Charles Owusu said.
Mr. Osei Owusu further advised customers to be vigilant when conducting transactions, stressing that no one can authorize a mobile money transaction on behalf of a customer unless the customer personally initiates it.
We are urging the users to protect their mobile money PINs and remain cautious when dealing with unknown callers and suspicious messages, he said.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Kola Market, Marie-Reine Seshie, expressed excitement over the partnership with MTN for the workshop.
She also advised the public to be highly protective of their mobile money PINs and personal financial information, Madam Marie-Reine Seshie revealed that Kola Market has introduced an Artificial Intelligence tool designed to help business owners monitor and improve their sales and profits.
The initiative is particularly targeted at supporting women-led businesses by equipping them with digital tools to grow and manage their enterprises effectively, Madam Marie-Reine said.
She explained that the Kola AI tool will help business owners assess the performance of their businesses, making it easier for them to qualify for loans and financial support through MTN Mobile Money services.
The Kola AI tool can help you to access loans easily from momo services, banking institutions and others, she added.
The workshop formed part of broader efforts by MTN and its partners to strengthen digital financial literacy and protect customers against the growing threat of mobile money fraud in Ghana.
