NDC HAS FAILED FASTER THAN EXPECTED – ANNOH-DOMPREH SLAMS MAHAMA GOVERNMENT
Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has launched a strong attack on the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government, accusing the administration of failing Ghanaians just months after returning to power.
Speaking at the opening of the Minority Caucus Workshop at the Accra City Hotel on Monday, the outspoken New Patriotic Party lawmaker declared that the government had “failed faster than expected,” citing economic hardship, erratic power supply, cocoa price reductions, and growing public dissatisfaction as signs of poor governance.
Addressing Minority Members of Parliament and party supporters, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said the NPP Minority Caucus has become stronger and more focused despite the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. He described the caucus as the “Mighty Minority,” insisting that although the group sits in opposition, it continues to dominate national discussions and expose what he called the failures and inconsistencies of the current administration.
According to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri legislator, many Ghanaians who voted for the NDC in anticipation of economic relief are now disappointed by prevailing conditions. He claimed businesses are struggling under renewed power outages, while market women, teachers, nurses, and cocoa farmers continue to battle worsening hardship.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh further criticized the recent reduction in cocoa producer prices, arguing that it has deepened the struggles of farmers already dealing with rising production costs and unstable incomes. He stressed that the NPP Minority would continue to speak on issues affecting ordinary citizens and would not allow the government to “deceive Ghanaians with propaganda.”
The Minority Chief Whip also accused the government of mismanaging the economy despite promises made during the election campaign. He argued that the return of persistent power outages demonstrates a lack of a sustainable strategy in the energy sector and warned against a return to periods of severe economic instability.
As part of the workshop, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh revealed that the Minority Caucus has intensified internal training and mentorship programmes for first-time Members of Parliament to strengthen parliamentary performance and policy engagement. According to him, experienced lawmakers have been paired with younger MPs to improve debates and committee work in Parliament.
Despite the NPP’s loss in the last election, he expressed confidence that the party remains well-positioned for a comeback in 2028. He encouraged party members to remain hopeful and stay connected to constituents while continuing to hold the government accountable.
The Minority Caucus workshop brought together MPs and party strategists to discuss parliamentary tactics, national issues, and preparations for the next sitting of Parliament as the opposition seeks to rebuild momentum ahead of the next general elections.
