Transparency International, GIPC Train Journalists to Promote Accountability in Ghana’s Investment Sector

Transparency International Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, has organized a capacity-building workshop for journalists in the Ashanti Region

The training accordingbto organizers aimed at deepening understanding of Ghana’s investment regime.

Held at True Vine Hotel on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the workshop focused on equipping media practitioners with knowledge of the country’s investment framework to enhance transparency, accountability, and responsible reporting.

Speaking at the event, Head of Finance for Transparency International Ghana, Benedict Doh, said the training was designed to bridge knowledge gaps and empower journalists to play a stronger watchdog role.

“This workshop will help journalists understand the requirements and concepts surrounding Ghana’s investment regime".

"With that knowledge, they can better educate the public, promote transparency and accountability, and support government efforts to attract more investors into the country,” Mr. Doh stated.

He added that accurate reporting on investment policies and practices is critical to building investor confidence and protecting public interest.

Deputy Director of GIPC, Michael Okyere, also used the platform to issue a stern warning against “fronting” — the illegal practice where Ghanaians register businesses on behalf of foreigners to circumvent investment laws.

“Fronting is a criminal offence under GIPC Act 865, Sections 27 and 28. Anyone caught engaging in it will be handed over to the appropriate authorities to face the full rigours of the law,” Mr. Okyere cautioned.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to working with the media to promote a transparent and investor-friendly business environment in Ghana.
